At its study session Monday, Oct. 26, the Prior Lake-Savage school board leaned toward the Aug. 30, 2027 start, one of four draft 2027-28 calendars, with a full week of spring break. No vote was taken. The board plans to set the first and last days of school Nov. 9, and district staff will build the full calendar from there.
The four drafts start school Aug. 2, Aug. 23, Aug. 30 and Sept. 7, the day after Labor Day.

The August starts need the state’s approval, which the board voted Oct. 12 to seek from the Minnesota Department of Education.
The Aug. 2 draft, a modified 45-15 calendar, has no school Oct. 11 to 22, Dec. 22 to Jan. 7 and March 13 to 24. It is the only draft that ends the first semester before winter break, on Dec. 20.
The Aug. 23 draft has MEA off Oct. 21 and 22, winter break from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2 and spring break March 20 to 24.
The Aug. 30 draft has the same MEA days, winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2 and no school March 22 to 24.
The Sept. 7 draft, called Holiday to Holiday, also has MEA off and winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, but no spring break, just a day off March 24.
The last day of school is May 24, 2028, in the Aug. 23 draft and May 25 in the others. The August drafts have 168 school days for most grades, and the Sept. 7 draft has 169.
What's next: The board plans to set the first and last days of the 2027-28 school year at its Nov. 9 meeting, 6 pm at the District Services Center, 4540 Tower St. SE.
