Shakopee will vote Wednesday on 180 income-limited apartments on Third Avenue
The Shakopee City Council will vote Wednesday, Nov. 4, on the plat for 3rd Avenue West Apartments, a 180-unit, four-story rental building that Reuter Walton proposes at 1480 Third Ave. W., near County Road 69. The developer says the units, 46 one-bedroom, 66 two-bedroom and 68 three-bedroom, will serve households at 30% to 60% of area median income, with $1,800,000 committed from Scott County.
Apartments are a permitted use on the site, staff wrote, and Twin City Concrete Pumping will stay in its existing building on a second lot. The plan moves the Third Avenue driveway away from the County Road 69 intersection and has 372 parking spaces, one more than city code requires.
The plan also shows removing 12 of the 39 butternut trees on the site, a listed endangered species in Minnesota. That will take a state Department of Natural Resources permit before any grading or building permit, and if those trees cannot come out, the staff report says, the site design must change.
What's next: The council will meet at 7 pm Wednesday, Nov. 4, at City Hall, 485 Gorman Street.
