Coverage Policy
Prior Lake Events highlights things to do in and around Prior Lake, concerts, festivals, classes, games, and gatherings that the public can attend.
We focus on community happenings, not general advertising or routine specials.
Our goal is to keep the calendar helpful, local, and easy to browse.
What We Include
Events are generally included if they meet one or more of the following:
- Open to the public, with or without admission
- Located in Prior Lake, or nearby in Savage or Shakopee and of clear interest to Prior Lake residents
- Hosted by a recognized organization, business, school, club, or community group
- Offer an experience people can attend, watch, or participate in
Examples include:
- City and community festivals
- Library and Community Education programs
- School events and fundraisers
- Live music, theater, and cultural activities
- Farmers markets and craft fairs
- Varsity home games for major Prior Lake High School sports (football, basketball, hockey, volleyball, baseball, softball)
- Business-hosted experiences such as trivia nights, wine tastings, painting classes, or other themed social events
- Neighborhood-wide garage sales or community sales
What We Donβt Include
To keep the calendar focused and fair, we do not list:
- Individual garage or moving sales
- Realtor open houses
- Routine happy hours, weekly drink specials, or simple sales promotions (e.g. βhalf-off appetizers 3β5 PMβ)
- General advertising, coupons, or business deals with no event experience
- Private or invite-only events
- Online-only or virtual programs without a local in-person component
- Events hosted at a private residence (e.g., sales parties, in-home gatherings, or meetups held at someoneβs home)
Nearby Communities
Events in Savage or Shakopee may be included if they are:
- Less than roughly 10 minutes from central Prior Lake, and
- Clearly relevant or appealing to Prior Lake residents, such as regional tournaments, nearby concerts, or joint community festivals.
Sponsored & Featured Posts
From time to time, we feature events as paid placements β a business or organization has sponsored that spot on the calendar, in our newsletter, or on social media.
Featured events occasionally fall outside the coverage rules above. For example, a sponsor may pay to feature an event in Shakopee or Savage that’s beyond the 10-minute guideline. These placements are paid promotion, not editorial selection.
Sponsorships help keep regular event listings free for the community.
Submissions and Edits
Anyone can submit an event that meets these guidelines.
We review each listing for clarity, accuracy, and fit before publishing.
Minor edits may be made for formatting or readability.
We reserve the right to decline submissions that donβt align with the community-focused nature of the site.

If youβre unsure whether your event qualifies or would like clarification, email mark@priorlakeevents.com and Iβll be happy to help.
