Absentee voting starts Friday in the Prior Lake-Savage school referendum
Absentee voting in the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools referendum opens Friday, Sept. 18. Scott County mails absentee ballots starting 46 days before an election, and its in-person absentee room at Scott County Public Works in Jordan is open to every county voter from Sept. 18 through Oct. 30, weekdays 8 am to 4:30 pm, according to the county’s absentee voting pages. Prior Lake City Hall, for Prior Lake and Spring Lake Township residents, and Savage City Hall open for early voting Oct. 16 through Oct. 30, the same hours.
Two questions are on the Nov. 3 ballot, the district’s referendum page says. Question 1 would revoke the existing operating levy of $623.97 per student and replace it with $1,740.97 per student for 10 years, starting with the 2027-2028 school year. Question 2 is a capital projects levy of about $3.8 million a year for 10 years starting in 2028-2029, and it can pass only if Question 1 passes.
The district estimates the tax impact of the operating levy on a $525,000 house at about $46 per month, and says there is no tax increase in the capital levy’s first year.
What's next: Early voting at the Prior Lake and Savage city halls runs Oct. 16 through Oct. 30. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
