SMSC Wacipi
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s annual Wacipi (powwow) is one of the biggest event weekends of the summer around here. Hundreds of dancers of all ages, representing dozens of tribes from across the United States and Canada, compete in the arena in full regalia while drum groups and singers surround the perimeter. It’s a short drive from anywhere in Prior Lake, and it’s worth seeing at least once a year.
2026 dates and grand entries
- Friday, August 14: grand entry 7 p.m.
- Saturday, August 15: grand entries 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, August 16: grand entry 1 p.m.

Know before you go
- The SMSC prohibits firearms, alcohol, and drugs on all its properties.
- Service animals as defined by the ADA are welcome. Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted.
