The Making of America Film Screening

The Minnesota Humanities Center screens the documentary The Making of America on Friday, Oct. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mystic Lake Center, the event center at Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake. The afternoon includes the film, a panel discussion and an art showcase, Reconstruction 2.0: Allegories of a Better World.

Directed by Monique Linder and produced by OMG Studios in partnership with the Humanities Center, the film looks at how Enlightenment-era art, science, architecture and mapmaking produced lasting frameworks for racial slavery, territorial extraction and Indigenous dispossession in what became the United States.

The showcase gathers work by artists from around the country on themes like moral courage, justice, memory and cultural healing. The screening is part of the center’s 2026 Juneteenth series. Admission is free, but you need to register first on the Humanities Center’s registration page.
