Scott County’s maximum 2027 levy adds $89.89 a year on the average home
The Scott County Board voted 5-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 15, to set a maximum 2027 property tax levy that its staff report says equates to an annual increase of $89.89, or $7.49 a month, for the average residential property, according to the signed board packet.
That is more than the figure on the agenda. Resolution No. 2026-194 called for a maximum levy of $112.21 million, which the staff report put at $82.91 a year for the average residential property, and the signed packet records no action on it. The board adopted Resolution No. 2026-216 instead: a maximum proposed levy of $112.69 million, less $7,957,665 in certified property tax aids, for a net levy of $104.73 million, $8,053,471 more than the 2026 levy.
Staff recommended adding a contingency. The budget presentation says the county has an individual placed at the Anoka Metro Regional Treatment Center, that a transfer to a new placement could take up to a year, and that the estimated cost to the county is $1,000,000. It puts the added $483,401 at approximately half a year’s cost, with the remainder from fund balance.
The presentation calls the adopted version an 8.33% preliminary levy; the first was a proposed increase of 7.83%. Its chart of residential properties at 8.33% puts the largest group, 22,668 properties, at an increase of $50 to $99. The staff report says the final levy, set in December 2026, cannot increase above the adopted maximum.
What's next: The proposed levy is due to the County Auditor by Sept. 30. Department budget workshops are set for Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27, and the final levy is set in December 2026.
