The Savage Sports Center is the city-owned athletic dome in the northwest corner of Community Park on Dakota Avenue in Savage. Locals just call it the Savage Dome.
From November through April an air-supported dome covers a full-size synthetic turf field that can be split into smaller fields, which is why it fills up with soccer, lacrosse, baseball and softball practice, and football training all winter. When the dome comes down in May the same turf becomes an outdoor field through October.
The part most people do not know about: free open walk and jog hours inside the dome during the winter season, so you can get steps in on turf instead of ice. Times are posted weekly on the city's site. Field rentals and open-time schedules run through Savage Parks and Recreation at 952-224-3420. Prior Lake Events has covered community events held here, including the Flashlight Egg Scramble and the Secret Holiday Shop.
