Canterbury Park is the horse track and card casino at 1100 Canterbury Road in Shakopee, about 15 minutes north of Prior Lake on County Road 83, next door to the Mystic Lake Amphitheater. More of what I list in a year happens on these grounds than anywhere else nearby.

Live racing is a summer meet. The 2026 season ran May 23 to Sept. 19 on select Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. The race-day extras are what bring families: the dog races on summer Sundays (wiener dogs on the Fourth, then beagles, corgis and a unicorn and llama day), Extreme Day, a rodeo and a fireworks night in July. The card casino is separate from the racing calendar: live poker, poker tournaments and table games, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Off the track, the 30,000-square-foot Expo Center and the Event Center hold the region's shows: the spring and autumn Arts and Crafts Affair, Junk Bonanza, the Shakopee Home Show, the sports card and trading card shows, the Great Train Show, concerts, and the winter sportsmen's and car shows.
