The 8th annual Paddle Dash launches from Charlie's on Prior: check-in 8:45 a.m., 10K at 9, then the 5K loop and 1-mile kids' route. $25 and up, and boards, kayaks and canoes are all welcome. Register ahead online.

Bold North Adventure weekend at the Renaissance Festival, Saturday and Sunday 9 to 7 in Shakopee, with Sign Language Saturday on the 12th. Sixteen stages, jousting, 250-plus artisan shops, and 500-plus food options, every weekend through October 4.

The chicken dinner that started as the firemen's fall fundraiser and once closed down Main Avenue turns into a parking lot party this year, with live entertainment and kids' events. Serving 3 to 7 p.m., $25 adults, $15 kids 10 and under. Everyone welcome, member or not.
